Pastor Steve Poteete-Marshall grew up in Western Massachusetts, the oldest of three children. He has one sister, Janice, and one brother, Gary, who both live in Massachusetts. Steve was training to be an electrician but received a call to ministry and went to study for the ministry at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He was on the soccer and tennis teams, participated in a few musicals and plays as well as serving as a student pastor. He then went on to seminary at Boston University School of Theology and there met his wife-to-be, Linda, a fellow student. They were married in 1981 in Marsh Chapel. Linda was from Northridge California so they had to choose which coast to apply for ordination. They settled on the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist church and after graduation were ordained in 1984 in Redlands.
Steve has served churches in West Los Angeles, Rosemead, Norwalk, Covina, Walnut, and Crescenta Valley. He is also a certified chaplain and served as a hospital and hospice chaplain as well as a volunteer Sheriff’s deputy chaplain. Steve participates in various athletic activities, golf, triathlon, hiking, yoga and loves the outdoors. He is father to Amber and Susy.
He serves as the chair of the AIDS task force of the Cal-Pac conference and on the Planning and Strategy committee of the North District of the United Methodist Church
