Dinner with a Book

Draw Close: A Creative Companion for Lent

Thursdays
5:00 – 5:30 Soup
5:30 -6:30 Discussion

March, 13th – April, 10th

Experience scripture, God, and your faith in a fresh new way this Lenten season. In the interactive devotional Draw Close, Rev. Stephanie Dunn invites people of all faith levels and artistic skills into a creative daily practice that will deepen your faith and help you engage scripture in imaginative new ways. On each of the 40 days of Lent, you’ll find a biblical text, a word prompt, a brief meditation, and a prayer, followed by a blank page for you to respond in whatever way you choose–sketching, painting, poetry, journaling, or however your heart desires!

As you engage with the Lenten texts in this immersive way, you’ll discover new depths of insight, connection, and spiritual renewal. Through the act of creation, you’ll find a sacred space where prayer, meditation, and creativity converge, nurturing your soul and fostering a closer relationship with God.

This unique Lenten companion for all ages can be used alone or with a group of others looking for new ways to practice their faith. Pick up a pen or pencil and prepare to draw closer to God this Lent! Perforated pages allow you to tear out your favorite creations to hang on the wall or fridge.

Dinner with a BooK for Kids

Lent is a meaningful time for reflection and spiritual growth, and incorporating learning activities, stories, and meals for children can make the experience more engaging and memorable.

  1. Biblical Stories and Lessons:
    • We will be sharing age-appropriate biblical stories related to the books themes,
  2. Crafts and Art Projects:
    • We will have crafting sessions where children can create symbolic art projects related to themes of the books, such as making prayer beads, creating crosses, or crafting scenes from biblical stories.
  3. Meals with a Purpose:
    • We will be sharing dinner with everyone who is participating in the Study.

Chris Parker-Kennedy’s Article

Mariann Edgar Budde is an Episcopal Bishop in Washington DC who took a stance in June 2020 that required a great deal of courage. She has now written a book to offer guidance on making such courageous decisions. She does not always recommend action; sometimes, after thoughtful consideration and prayer, we may choose NOT to act, or NOT to move.

But we hope to encourage you to join us if you are thinking about making a change or taking an action or a stance, and want to use this process to help with the decision.

Please join us as we explore new ideas and situations that are certainly going to pop up in 2025.

The class is four sessions, beginning Thursday, Jan. 16 to Feb. 6 from 5– 6:30 p.m.

Talk to Chris Parker-Kennedy (805-459-9750) if you have questions.
