chancelchoir2016Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is an integral part of Sunday morning worship at AUMC. Its choir members are dedicated to enhancing worship by lifting their voices in praise to God every Sunday.  They meet each Thursday evening at 7 to rehearse the anthem they will present as their musical offering the following Sunday.   All ages and musical abilities are welcome to join the choir.  Contact choir director Don Dexter for more information at dexinned@gmail.com.

Dr. Luanne Fose shares her considerable musical talents on the organ and Sharon Cooper provides beautiful choir accompaniment on the piano. AUMC is also blessed to have many talented instrumental musicians in the congregation and community with whom they enjoy singing special selections and performing cantatas.

Besides Wednesday evenings, and Sunday mornings, the chancel choir sings for special church holy days (such as Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve, etc.). Choir members also participate in the annual “Choir Cluster,” which is typically scheduled for the first Sunday in May each year.

When the Chancel Choir takes a summer break, a smaller group of singers and musicians leads in worship. It too welcomes people of all ages and musical abilities.

The handbell choir at AUMC, Joyful Noise, began in the summer of 1998 and is co-directed by Margie Orchard and Marylu Weaver Meagher. Through the gift of handbells from the Monterey Park UMC and financial support of handbell enthusiasts, the choir now features four octaves of bells and a three-octave set of hand chimes. Each ringer is assigned at least two bells, and with a variety of techniques to produce sound, as well as the use of the hand chimes, the choir adds richness to Sunday morning worship, regularly offering their gifts once a month.

Many handbell members have been in the choir for several years but new members have been added to the group as well.  Joyful Noise rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings. Each fall the choir sells Christmas greens, and the proceeds cover the cost to attend workshops and conferences in the area. The group also participates in an annual “Spring Ring” – a day when many local hand bell choirs come together to ring with a clinician and hold a concert afterwards.

Please contact the church office at 466-2566 if you are interested in sharing your musical gifts to participate in the Joyful Noise Handbell Choir. The choir would love to have you!
